Coubertin meets Dunant about Mahdi:

Mahdi is an ambitious high-performance athlete who combines sporting excellence with discipline, reliability and social commitment. Since arriving in Switzerland, he has developed strongly both as an athlete and as an individual at Taekwondo Bern and has become an important part of the club community.
Alongside his own career, Mahdi works as an assistant coach for children and young people. With his experience and open personality, he is an important role model – particularly for young people with similar experiences. He demonstrates how determination, hard work and openness can open up new perspectives.

  • I come from Afghanistan and have been living in Switzerland for around one and a half years. Today, Taekwondo Bern is not only my sporting home, but also a place where I can develop and be part of a community.
Taekwondo has been part of my life for many years. Before I came to Switzerland, I lived in Iran. There, I competed at the highest national level in the Super League and gained international experience. In Switzerland, I am continuing my sporting career with the goal of constantly improving and competing at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
At the same time, I share my passion and experience as an assistant coach with children and young people. Supporting others on their sporting journey means a lot to me.

  • I am determined, eager to learn and reliable. I want to continuously develop – in Taekwondo, in learning German and in building my new life in Switzerland. At the same time, it is important to me to give something back. As an assistant coach, I particularly enjoy working with children and young people and sharing my experience and passion for Taekwondo.

  • My biggest sporting goal is to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. I am committed to developing further in Olympic Taekwondo, competing internationally and qualifying for the biggest sporting events.
At the same time, I want to build a professional future alongside sport and become independent in the long term. I also plan to continue my work as a coach, sharing my experience with children and young people, motivating them and supporting them on their own journey.
