Maksym Haman

Ice hockey player | *16.03.2007
Ukraine, Bohuslav / Switzerland, Kreuzlingen

Maksym has proven himself to be a role model for other young people through his positive attitude, dedication, and curiosity. We came to know Maksym as an exceptionally courteous young man who is deeply grateful for this opportunity during a personally challenging time in his life.

He radiates this sense of gratitude and, through his attitude, also inspires and supports his classmates — many of whom have never personally experienced war or uncertainty — helping them realize that life can take very different paths for different people.

Through these experiences, Maksym has developed remarkable resilience and is able to cope with challenges better than many of his peers — a truly impressive personality.
  • March 2022-present

Maksym Haman has been living in Switzerland since March 10, 2022. Due to the war in Ukraine, he was forced to leave his home country and, in 2022, was accepted as one of 43 Ukrainian sports talents into the Talent Campus in Kreuzlingen.

The Refugee Elite Athlete Programme, launched in the same year as part of the pilot project Coubertin meets Dunant, gave him and other young athletes the opportunity to continue their sporting careers and build a new life in Switzerland.

Maksym is a passionate ice hockey player and has been playing since the age of eight. In Ukraine, he was part of Bohuslav Shershni, and today he is a member of the HCT Young Lions U20 squad. In the 2022/23 season, he won the Swiss championship with the U17 team.
