Nikita Kazantesev

Ice hockey trainer and player | *10.01.2006
Ukraine, Kiew / Switzerland, Kreuzlingen

We have found Nikita to be an exceptionally kind, considerate, and conscientious person. He is a role model in dealing with difficult situations and an exemplary human being. For this reason — and not only because of his achievements as an athlete — we are delighted that Nikita is part of Coubertin meets Dunant.

  • I have been living in Switzerland since 10 March 2022. Due to the war in Ukraine, I was forced to leave my home country and was accepted into the Talent Campus in Kreuzlingen in 2022 as one of 43 Ukrainian sporting talents.

The Refugee Elite Athlete Programme, launched in the same year as part of the pilot project Coubertin meets Dunant, gave me and other young athletes the opportunity to continue our sporting careers while building a new life in Switzerland.

  • Since arriving in Switzerland, I have had the opportunity to represent the Coubertin meets Dunant Foundation in various media appearances. I have appeared on programmes such as "Eishockey-WM Magazin SRF (United Hockey Camp)", "SRF bi de Lüt", "Tagesschau", and "Schweiz aktuell". On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of UNHCR, I was also invited to give an interview to Tribune de Genève alongside the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, and three other refugees.
These experiences have shown me the importance of openness, responsibility, and mutual respect.
Through my active involvement over the past years, I have met many inspiring people and been able to seize new opportunities. With my positive attitude, curiosity, and passion for sport, I hope to encourage other talented young refugees to believe in themselves and pursue their own path.

  • "I hope to build my future here in Switzerland and finally have a clear perspective after fleeing my home country. My goal is to successfully complete my commercial apprenticeship while spending as much time as possible on the ice as a coach and player."
